Measles
So this is a hot topic. So, I'm sorry if I offend anyone out there. I don't mean to. This is my opinion and only that. Ok, with that said. On the Today Show this morning they had a story about an outbreak of Measles in America. And I was like, "What? Don't we have immunizations out there to protect our kids from that?" We do, but parents are choosing to not immunizes their kids in fear of Autism and allergies. I know this. But, this is where I get upset. Thousands of people (kids included) DIED of the measles in the '60s. More and more parents are choosing not to immunizes their kids. Do they not understand that it only takes ONE person to have an disease to come in contact with your unimmuizes child for them to get sick. Your child could get Polio. Do you know what Polio is? It cripples a person. And causes death. There are other diseases out there that could cause mental retardation. I heard a study (on the Today Show again) that scientist are finding that children that have Autism have a father that is older that 35. What does this mean? They found that the male gene is corrupt as the male gets older. So, again, what does that mean? And how does that affect those kids? Well, it seems like EVERYONE is waiting to get married until they are in their 30s. Then waiting until 35 or later to have a child. Old genes make poor babies. Now, before you ripe me a new one. I know that that does not apply to everyone. My parents were 38 and 42 when they had me. And there is nothing wrong with me. I was also immunized at the time when there was a real threat of immunizations causing Autism b/c of one little drug that could have an adverse affect on a child. They took that drug out years ago. I strongly believe that Autism is caused by a gene mutation. Just like Down Syndrome. Or, mental or physical abuse (in full disclosure I have a cousin who's third child is Autistic. He was mentally and physically abuse from birth. No wonder he hinds in his mind and lives in a fantasy world. My cousin believes he became Autistic from the Measles vaccine and not her abusive, prick of an ex-husband). There are so many diseases out there that my generation just don't understand. There are countries out there that still have them. But we don't see that. We don't know the affect they have on our kids. So we think, that disease will never come back. So they believe this BS story about immunizations being bad for us, so they don't get their kids immunized. Then what happens. You travel with your child to Europe or Asia of have friends from out the country that carry a disease, and your child gets it and then they die, or spend weeks in the hospital. While doctors try to figure out what they have b/c they have never seen this before. God allowed these vaccinations to be created to SAVE lives. He protects his most special children from this horribly and awful world with mental illness. Mental illness is not created by some drug. Are any other mental illness created by drugs? And don't say addiction. That one doesn't count right now. I pretty sure there aren't. So why just this one illness? It just doesn't make sense in the whole scheme of things. You know? So, sorry about the rant. It just makes me upset that people could be so ignorant. So blind, and be able to swallow these false "doctor/lab studies". Remember way back when in the early '90s when a "study" came out that said eating eggs will cause cancer? Huh, sure. But people believed it. Don't believe everything that you read. Think about your child. Is death really that better than a fever for a day or two? Is weeks in a hospital really that better than a crying child that just got poked with a needle? Is death really that better than being in a coma for who knows how long? Is death really that better than lost of sight, feeling, movement, and speech? No, I don't think so. My kids are immunized, but there is always that chance that it didn't take. So if your kid has whooping cough or the measles or has been in contact with someone that has, or is not from the USA, or any other disease that my child has had a shot for to PROTECT them from this disease, PLEASE stay way. I don't want to take any chances. And I know that I won't be able to protect my children from those kids that are not immunized and could potentially infect them with whatever. But if you know that they are sick, or could get sick b/c of exposure to someone that has been sick, or you've been out of the country, just stay away. I'll take my risks with the "Autism causing immunizations". I'm sure that all of my kids will be just fine. Thank you very much! Click here for Wikipedia entry on Autism. A quote from Wikipedia, "Although parents may first become aware of autistic symptoms in their child around the time of a routine vaccination, and parental concern about vaccines has led to a decreasing uptake of childhood immunizations and an increasing likelihood of measles outbreaks, there is overwhelming scientific evidence showing no causal association between the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and autism, and there is no scientific evidence that the vaccine preservative thiomersal helps cause autism."

Thanks for posting this - really. There's some hype around my neighborhood about this, and some of my friends even said they might do some, but not all of the required immunizations. So anyway, it's nice to hear a different perspective on it, because I was beginning to believe all the stories you hear in the news, and obviously my neighborhood friends were as well, if they were considering not immunizing!
Eh, you'll probably hate me then. I am against infant immunizations. 100%. I'm not against immunizing at all, but only infants. My kids are 100% immunzed by the age of 3 but I definitely do not agree with pumping my babies full of chemicals. Just remember, everyone has their reasons for doing things, you may not always understand. :)
Word to the wise: Be careful about the immunizations that your doctors are prescribing. I know that sounds crazy coming from me (considering that I'm really gung-ho about getting your kids immunized by 3 and all that), but make sure that you stop to take a look at the descriptions of the immunizations that are being given to your kids before they are administered. The reason I say this is as follows: when Tia was 1 month old she was given the chickenpox vaccine. Then when she was 12 months old, she again got the vaccine. Then when she was 2, it happened again. Because of the paperwork mistake from changing doctors, and also because when she was 1 month the nurses didn't fully understand when the kids were supposed to get the chickenpox vaccine (it was really new then). I know, I am her mother and I should have been keeping track of these. But to be honest, I trusted the nurses and doctor to track them and wasn't worried. Now, she is just fine though I have no worries what so ever that she'll ever get the chicken pox. But if the same thing were to happen with many other forms of vaccine, problems would have occurred. Not to mention the fact that there are a great many vaccines that new and more or less untried but are still encouraged by pediatricians because of limited exposure issues which deserve a cautionary stance. Just be careful with it and listen to your instincts/the Spirit. It is amazing some of the simple things that people miss some times, in spite of being wonderful parents!
