So Steve just got done with his interview. Great news! The interviewer said that he performed above and beyond then what she expected. Now, that isn't a bad thing. Steve has had a professional relationship with her for the past 3 years. We've gotten to know her very well, and like her a lot. The feeling is mutual. At the beginning of the interview she told Steve this and said that because she already knew that he was awesome and knew how well he can interview, that she was going to be really hard on him. No problem. He blew her out of the water. She was so impressed with how he answered each question and with the stories he told (it's behavioral interviewing, so if you aren't familiar with that it's, "Tell me about a time you worked in a group and you had a lazy person in that group. How did you handle it and what were the results?" those types of questions) that she told him that at the end of the interview. Then she went on to explain that Portland is hurting for people. Which is not what she told us at the beginning of the month at Meet the Firms. She said that they have more work than people and said that when he gets the second interview up there, that they might offer him a job right on the spot with the answers that he gave her today. If asked the same type of questions. The only thing is, we might not be able to get a job for January, but she'll try really really hard to get that for us. She's really going to be pulling for us and that makes us very hopeful.
Last night was a recruiting event for Deloitte. Steve was well known there by almost all the professionals. He talked to the assistant recruiter and she told him that the main recruiter now is in Portland now and that she is from Salt Lake. And that they too, are needed people and it looked very good for him and that they were all pulling for him (even the main recruiter from the Salt Lake office). She told him that Wes, the main recruiter from SLC, was trying to get Steve contacts up in Portland. So that is very good news as well. Although, we won't find out if he gets an interview with them or not until tomorrow or later today, but it all is looking very good. Deloitte has been very good to Steve (they gave him a scholarship this year!) and he has always been impressed with them.
So things are starting to look up. We've heard from some firms in Portland already. Most have had the same tune, send in your resume and if you look good, we'll keep you posted. All have said that they don't have anything open for January, but maybe this summer or next fall. And only one has said, too late. Oh well, it's ok though. It looks like we'll be going to one of the top 3 firms anyways, so that's better in the long run.
