Potty Time

For the past few months, we have been trying to get Jake to start to potty train. I thought we had missed our chances about six months ago. He was really into going and sitting on the potty. But things, they are a changin'! Last night and tonight, Steve has been putting Jake on the potty before bed time. Last night, Jake farted a lot but didn't do anything else. We gave him a jelly bean for trying anyways. Then tonight, he wet pee!!! Jake went pee in the potty!!!! It was great! He got off and flushed, ran out to me to show me his peepee (he pointed to it. I think that was his way of telling me he went pee in the potty) then ran back to do more. That time he only farted, but when we put the diaper on for the night, there was a little bit of poopy from pushing so hard. I really hope that this is the beginning of the end of Jake diapers! It hasn't been too bad having three kids in diapers. It seems like all three poop at the same time. So we're are going to do our thing and try and get Jake potty trained. I would love to have him potty trained by the end of the week. I know we can do it, but I'm just not sure how to go about this. There are just so many different ways to get this done. We just need to figure out what will work for Jake. I know we are going to start putting him on the potty every two hours. Steve wants to do that for a few days and see how that goes. If all goes well, then we are going to get Jake some feel 'n' learns, or some other type of training pants. This is where things get tricky. Do we do training pants, or do we just put him in underwear? I don't know. But we'll figure it out soon enough. Any tips??

Good luck with that! Potty training is so nerve wracking! You're brave to do it so soon after baby. :)

There's a book I really liked called, "Diaper Free before 3" It talks alot about training younget kids but it has some really good ideas for older ones too.

Evelyn was pretty easy once she was ready for it. I've heard, though, that girls really are easier than boys.

The first couple days we used a treat when she's sit on the potty but I figured that she was going to be on a permanent sugar buzz if we kept that up so I just made a sticker chart and acted all excited about it (Like putting a sticker on a little peice of paper was the coolest thing in the world) so everytime she went potty we'd put a sticker on the chart. We'd go every couple of hours and try (2-3) after about a week she didn't care about stickers anymore and she's only had a few accidents since then. So Yay! She stays dry about 90% of nights too.

I decided that pull-ups are like diapers and so we just went for the cotton training pants. There's some really great ones (kinda spendy) at JC Penny called Wee-Ones they are extra soft and really thick so if they do start to go it'll usually save the furniture/floors. The Gerber ones are okay but they're really not as nice.

Good luck!
