Book Review: The Sword of Truth Series

The Sword of Truth series are written by Terry Goodkind. The books are, Debt of Bones, Wizard's First Rule, Stone of Tears, Blood of the Fold, Temple of the Winds, Soul of the Fire, Faith of the Fallen, The Pillars of Creation, Naked Empire, Chainfire, Phantom, and Confessor. Yeah, that's a lot of books.


I LOVE these books! Really and truly! They are a great fantasy series that takes you in to the world of the Westlands, then to The Midlands, The Old World and D'Hara. You follow a young man by the name of Richard. He sees a young women being chased by big scary men, and he tries to help her. Her name is Kahlan. With the help of Richard's old man friend, Zedd, they go on a wild adventure to save the world from Darken Rahl and find the Seeker.


The first book is Wizard's First Rule, Debt of Bones is about Zedd when he was a young man in the days of Panis Rahl, Darken Rahl's father. A prequel of sorts.


These books are just so good. The plot is basically following Richard and Kahlan in their quest to save their world from Darken Rahl, and then a truly evil man from the Old World. It has action, adventure, magic, romance, fighting and philosophy on how to live your life.


There are a whole host of characters that you will fall in love with or just hate! I LOVE Zedd!!! He is just a great old man, with a lot of tricks up his sleeve. And of course, Richard and Kahlan have stolen my heart. And a few others as well.


My favorite books were, The Wizard's First Rule, Faith of the Fallen and the last three books (they are written as a trilogy). The book that bothered me the most was The Pillars of Creation, but that was just because it mostly followed a new character, I just wanted to read about Richard, Kahlan and Zedd! But it was good too. Just not my favorite one in the series.


There was a tv show created based on the first two books, The Legend of the Seeker. It is no longer on tv, but you can Netflix it!


There is a warning though, these books do have violence and lots of gory stuff. Some violence towards women, and a few swear words. It is a battle between good and evil, so there is fighting. And lots of it. Goodkind does go in to detail on most of the violent stuff, but I found it wasn't too bad. But then, I'm numb to that sort of stuff, so I might not be the best gage on that.


If you are looking for a great new series to read, then give The Sword of Truth a shot. There are two spin off books out there. The Law of Nines and The Omen Machine. I haven't read either yet (The Omen Machine is coming out August 16th, and I'm writing this the day before that :D) The Law of Nines follow characters that go in a different direction at the end of the books. And The Omen Machine is a new book following Richard and Kahlan on their new adventure, apart from the Sword of Truth. This is, what Goodkind calls it, what happened after Confessor.


All in all, these are great books that will keep you reading for awhile! Although, it took me only a few months to read them all.
