Valentine's Day

This was Jake's first Valentine's Day being in school.
For a boy, he was really excited.
We just had to open his Valentine's the minute we came home.
So here it is:

The big heart in the middle is what the kids made to collect their Valentine's in.
On the right was all his candy (gone within 5 minutes of this photo. He did share with him sibs and mama!)
The two hearts on plastic tubes are Smepencils. They are smelly pencils. That was mine and Steve's Valentine's to him.
The rest are the Valentine's from his classmates.

Funny thing, my daughter, sat by and was getting sadder and sadder.
She was sad that Jake was getting all this stuff, and she didn't get anything.

Ok, so I was super sick last week. I totally forgot that Valentine's is holiday you should do something for your kids.
I did nothing.
It might have been the fact of 1: being sick and 2: Steve leaving me and this was our first V-day apart and it totally sucked and I was really sad and depressed that I didn't get to do anything for him, or he for me. Sorry kids.
I did, however, take the kids to Safeway and get some candy for them!

Jake made me this card at school. He kept telling me that he was making a card for me for V-day, but I didn't know that it would touch me so.
Ok, so the outside wasn't all that great. Premade hearts.
And yes, the card is made backwards. He's a lefty, so it makes sense to him

It's this that made me cry.
Can I blame it on the pregnancy and not feeling like I was loved at this moment?
In case you can't read it, it says "Happy Valene's Day. Love, Jacob."
I love the drawing. (Crap, I'm tearing up again)
It's him and I holding hands with the most wonderful red heart over our hands.
How sweet is that?
He gave me a big ol' hug and a kiss after he gave me the card.
Even though Jake and I have had our ups and downs, I love that little boy so much! He is just the most wonderful, sweet, kind, loving, great helper, son a mom could ask for!

So, after crying over this card, and as I'm getting the kids ready to go to the store, there was a knock at the door.
Hmmm, who could it be?
An old lady bringing me these!
Now, you have to understand that all morning I was trying to get Steve to tell me he either got me something or not, by saying I'm sorry we couldn't be together and that I didn't get him anything.
He never responded either way. Just that it sucked that we couldn't be together on V-day.
So, I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I thought that he might come through.
And he did!
I love red roses! Well, any rose actually, but this is wonderful!
And there is a really sweet card that went with these flowers.
(sorry, don't feel like sharing...or getting up off the couch to go read it again)

So that was my Valentine's Day.
I learned my daughter is just like me and will be very sad when she doesn't get that special Valentine's that she really wants.
That I need to actually do something for my kids now that they know what holidays are and that Jake does special things for them in school.
That I really hate being away from my husband on special days like this.
Hope your Valentine's was better than ours!

Hmmm...lesson for me too. At what age do you suggest I start buying for my sweet Emma?
